Lauren A. Greenberg serves as the firm’s assistant general counsel for ethics. Ms. Greenberg is the primary contact and risk manager on legal ethics issues in support of Akin Gump’s offices worldwide. She develops and establishes the firm’s policies and procedures on ethics and compliance-related best practices. Ms. Greenberg leads the Ethics Attorney Group that responds to in-house legal ethics inquiries and analyzes conflicts of interest, legal ethics and risk management issues as they pertain to new business opportunities. She currently serves on the D.C. Bar Legal Ethics Committee and previously served for six years as a member of the D.C. Bar Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, the last two of which as its vice chair.

Practice & Background

A seasoned litigator in civil and criminal matters and an experienced legal ethics advisor, Ms. Greenberg has devoted the past two decades of her practice to litigation matters, including cases involving legal ethics, intellectual property, business torts, commercial contracts, insurance coverage, and employment and discrimination matters in both state and federal courts. She has argued several appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Ms. Greenberg has served as counsel to court-appointed receivers and referees.

As an ethics advisor, Ms. Greenberg has counseled lawyers on legal ethics matters and professional responsibility obligations. She has served as outside general counsel to for-profit and nonprofit businesses, advising on internal ethics policies and practices, as well as corporate, employment and contract matters. 

Her career began at another Am Law 100 firm as a litigation associate working on white-collar criminal defense and commercial litigation matters. Ms. Greenberg is a member of the bars of the District of Columbia, Maryland and New York, and was admitted to the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia and the District of Maryland. She has been admitted pro hac vice in several federal and state courts.

Community Involvement

Ms. Greenberg's professional and civic activities include serving as:

  • a member of the D.C. Bar Legal Ethics Committee (2015–present)
  • a member of the D.C. Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee (2009–2015), vice-chair (2013-2015).
