Sophia Karas is Counsel in the firm’s corporate practice and focuses on corporate finance transactions, particularly secured and unsecured debt financings.
Practice and Background
Ms. Karas earned her J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School where she was awarded the Dean’s Scholar Prize in Legal Research and Writing. While at Harvard, Ms. Karas taught Legal Research and Writing as part of the Board of Student Advisors, served as the Technical Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and served as a Senior Technical Editor of the Harvard Law & Policy Review. Ms. Karas earned her A.B., summa cum laude, from Princeton University, where she was awarded the Shapiro Prize for Academic Excellence and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Prior to joining Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Ms. Karas was an Associate in the New York office of another prominent international law firm, where she gained experience representing institutional lenders, private equity sponsors and other borrowers in leveraged and investment-grade financing transactions and mergers and acquisitions.
