Stanley E. Woodward Jr. counsels companies and individuals responding to government and internal investigations as well as white collar criminal defense and general civil litigation actions.

Practice & Background

Mr. Woodward has represented domestic and international clients on issues related to global compliance, including matters arising under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and personal data protection laws, as well as other ethical and legal compliance matters.

Mr. Woodward also has experience in matters related to equal protection under the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, including claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Most recently, he successfully assisted an indigent client resolve a claim against the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services for violations under the ADA.

Mr. Woodward serves as President of the Alumni Council for the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law’s Alumni Association and as an Associate Trustee for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Mr. Woodward is also an adjunct professor at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, where he teaches courses on pre-trial litigation and employment law.

Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Woodward served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Vanessa Ruiz of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the Honorable Judge Joan Zeldon of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the Honorable Senior Judge Rufus King III, formerly the Chief Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

Mr. Woodward served as production editor of the Catholic University Law Review.
