Akin Gump Advises Laclede Group in Alagasco Acquisition

(New York) – Akin Gump advised the Laclede Group in an agreement with Energen Corporation, announced today, to acquire Energen’s Alabama Gas Corporation (Alagasco) subsidiary for $1.6 billion, including debt. Alagasco is the largest natural gas utility in Alabama and serves more than 422,000 customers.

Jeffrey Kochian and Lucas Torres, partners in Akin Gump’s corporate practice, led the team advising Laclede. They were joined by associates Nitzi Davis and Erika Leon.

This is the second major deal in the past 16 months in which Akin Gump has advised Laclede. In December 2012, the company acquired Missouri Gas Energy from Southern Union, with Akin Gump serving as its legal counsel.
