Akin Gump Advises MPLX Conflicts Committee in Pipeline Deal

(Houston) – Akin Gump served as legal advisor to the conflicts committee of the board of MPLX LP in its planned acquisition of an additional 13 percent interest in MPLX Pipe Line Holdings LP from a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation for $310 million. The acquisition, MPLX’s second since its October 2012 initial public offering, will increase the partnership’s interest in Pipe Line Holdings to 69 percent.

The Akin Gump team representing the MPLX conflicts committee consisted of energy partners John Goodgame and Chris LaFollette, who also serves as partner in charge of the firm’s Houston office and head of its oil and gas practice.
