(Houston) – Akin Gump and energy partner Robert Shearer were winners in the category of M&A Transaction of the Year at last night’s 2019 Houston Corporate Counsel Awards. Mr. Shearer and the firm were selected for their role in CenterPoint Energy’s acquisition of Vectren Corporation, which closed earlier this year.

Mr. Shearer, corporate partner Zachary Wittenberg, and labor and employment practice head Robert G. Lian Jr. led the team advising CenterPoint in the deal, which created a company with assets totaling approximately $29 billion, as well as the subsequent securities offerings.
