Akin Gump Authors Explore Upcoming Compliance Requirements of HITECH Act
Jo-Ellyn Sakowitz Klein, Kelly Cleary and Anna Dolinsky, senior counsel, counsel and associate, respectively, in Akin Gump’s health care and life sciences practice, authored an article for the June 2013 issue of Intellectual Property & Technology Law Journal, which looks at the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act of 2009 and its likely impact when implemented later this year.
The article notes that the HITECH Act creates “direct liability for a large new class of businesses providing services to the health care industry.” Many entities must take prompt action, as compliance is necessary by later this year. Failure to do so could lead to enforcement action by the Department of Health and Human Services.
