Akin Gump Expands Insurance Litigation Practice

(San Francisco, California) – Shawn Hanson has joined Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in San Francisco as a partner in the litigation practice.
Mr. Hanson’s practice focuses on insurance-related bad faith, false claims, ERISA and regulatory litigation; health care false claims litigation; and complex commercial litigation. His clients include insurers, ERISA plans and health care providers.
Stephen A. Mansfield, partner-in-charge in Akin Gump’s San Francisco office and a co-leader of the firm’s litigation practice, stated, “Shawn’s extensive experience in a broad range of insurance litigation matters complements Akin Gump’s depth of expertise in the industry and furthers our strategic growth plan. Mr. Hanson received his B.A. in 1980 from Santa Clara University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. in 1983 from the University of California Hastings College of the Law. He joins the firm from Jones Day, where he was a partner.
Mr. Hanson is the sixth litigation partner to join Akin Gump this year, following Dianne B. Elderkin, Barbara L. Mullin, Steven D. Maslowski, Douglas A. Rappaport and Cono Carrano.
