(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is pleased to share that, in a virtual event held today, it received a Washington Lawyers’ Committee (WLC) Alfred McKenzie Award.

The Alfred McKenzie Award was established in 1994 to recognize WLC clients whose “dedication and courage have produced civil rights victories of particular significance.” According to the WLC, the award is named for a man whose efforts as a Committee plaintiff helped to change an institution.

Akin Gump was recognized for its work on a new compassionate release for D.C. prisoners. The firm was one of only four law firms honored with this award at this event.

The Wiley A. Branton Awards are convened by the WLC to “celebrate and honor the commitment” of its honorees and their organizations, all of which work with WLC “to dismantle injustice and pursue lasting change.”

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
