The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty has honored Akin Gump with its Pro Bono Counsel Award for the firm’s representation in the case of Big Heart Ministries v. City of Dallas at its 15th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards.

The engagement saw Akin Gump, together with the NLCHP, successfully represent plaintiffs in a suit that resulted in the city of Dallas being prevented from enforcing a controversial city ordinance that regulated sharing food on the city’s streets with Dallas’ homeless population.

Akin Gump pro bono partner Steven Schulman received the award, presented by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, on behalf of the firm.
