Michael Byrd, a partner in Akin Gump’s oil and gas practice, along with counsel Cody Carper and associates Rahul Vashi and Gonzalo Castro, have written the article “Acquiring Upstream Assets via Joint Ventures: An In-Depth Study of Deal Structures, Key Negotiating Points, Drafting Tips, and Relevant Law,” which was published by The Energy Law Advisor.

The article examines the main jointure venture routes to acquiring and disposing of oil and gas assets through transactions other than traditional purchase and sale agreements. This includes multi-well farmout and participation agreements, drilling fund agreements, acquisition alliances, and joint exploration and development agreements.
