Akin Gump Lawyers Selected Among Houston Business Journal’s Top Legal Dealmakers
(Houston) – Three lawyers at Akin Gump have been recognized in the Houston Business Journal’s Top Legal Dealmakers issue for their role in one of the “most notable deals led by Houston partners.”
Christine LaFollette, partner in charge of the office, and John Goodgame, both of the oil and gas practice, and Thomas Weir of the tax practice served as legal counsel to the conflicts committee of Regency Energy Partners LP, which was acquired by Energy Transfer Partners in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $18 billion.
The Business Journal noted that because Energy Transfer Partners and Regency were both controlled by Energy Transfer Equity, “the deal required the approval of committees of independent directors of both partnerships.” The entire deal, the article said, “was negotiated and documented in less than two weeks—a challenging timeframe for a complex merger.”
