Akin Gump Promotes Four to Partnership
(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has promoted four of the firm’s lawyers to the partnership, effective January 1, 2010: Jayne T. Fitzgerald (Washington), David R. Nelson (San Antonio), Jin-Suk Park (Washington) and Sarah Link Schultz (Dallas).

Ms. Fitzgerald is senior policy counsel in the firm’s policy practice. She represents clients on tax, trade, pension and health matters before Congress and federal agencies. She served as tax counsel on the Committee on Ways and Means (1980-85 and 1992-95) under Chairman Dan Rostenkowski (D-IL), assisting in the drafting of all major tax legislation. During her tenure there, she also served as the committee’s counsel to the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures. In addition, she was heavily involved in the committee’s consideration and redrafting of President Clinton’s universal health plan. She received her B.A. summa cum laude in 1977 and her J.D. magna cum laude in 1980 from Georgetown University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Nelson is counsel in the firm’s litigation practice. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation, principally for insurers and their insureds. Mr. Nelson has represented clients in a variety of high-exposure litigation and arbitration matters, including complex insurance and reinsurance contract disputes, business tort claims involving securities and insurance products, class action litigation, and the defense of entities and individuals accused of fraud or other misconduct. He received his B.B.A. in accounting in 1989 from Texas State University and his J.D. with high honors in 1995 from the University of Texas School of Law. He is a certified public accountant licensed in Texas.
Mr. Park is counsel in the firm’s intellectual property practice. He focuses on patent litigation and intellectual property transactions. He has litigated patents in the U.S. District Courts, as well as Section 337 cases before the ITC, in several scientific and technical fields, including telecommunications, computer semiconductors, integrated circuits, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. He has also advised clients on patent portfolio valuation, licensing and risk assessments. He received his B.A. in biology in 1996 from the Johns Hopkins University and both his J.D. and his M.B.A. in 2001 from Boston University.
Ms. Schultz is counsel in the firm’s financial restructuring practice. Her practice emphasizes the representation of debtors and creditors committees in large, complex cases. She also represents secured creditors in single-asset real estate cases and vendors in large chapter 11 bankruptcies. Her restructuring matters encompass a variety of industries. She received her B.A. summa cum laude in 1998 from the University of North Dakota and her J.D. cum laude in 2001 from the University of Minnesota Law School.
