(Houston) – Akin Gump has taken the number two spot in Houston Business Journal’s inaugural Corporate Philanthropy Awards for the number of volunteer hours donated by employees over the past year. The firm, ranked in the midsized company category for those with 100-499 employees, tallied 3,383 hours.

Among its Houston-area philanthropic endeavors, following Hurricane Harvey, the firm created the Akin Gump Charitable Relief Fund to facilitate contributions to Houston’s recovery after the storm.

As part of its Corporate Philanthropy Awards, the Business Journal sought to recognize “the businesses that make giving a part of their culture” by spotlighting those companies “that make Houston one of the top cities in the United States each year for corporate giving.”

Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
