(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump is proud to share that it has recently received multiple recognitions for its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts.

To start, the firm was named by Diversity & Flexibility Alliance (DFA) as a Tipping the Scales firm. This list recognizes the firms that have “50% or more women in their 2021 U.S.-based new partner class.” Last year, DFA also honored with firm with its Flex Impact Award, which recognizes initiatives that demonstrate “a significant impact on the culture of workplace flexibility.”

Additionally, Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) honored the firm with two distinctions for its involvement in LCLD’s programs and the promotion of its mission: the 2021 Top Performer and the 2021 Compass Award. “Top Performers” are LCLD’s most active Member Corporations and Law Firms, with the highest level of engagement with LCLD. The Compass Award recognizes Members who submit a Leader's Pledge and/or personally attend our Annual Meeting or a Leadership Summit, participate in the Fellows and Pathfinder programs, and participate in at least one pipeline program (Mentoring or 1L Scholars).” Earlier this year, LCLD selected three Akin Gump lawyers to participate in the organization’s landmark programs.”

Finally, Akin Gump was named to Bloomberg Law’s inaugural DEI Framework. Firms selected to this list were recognized “based on their level of disclosure of diversity-related metrics and distinguished performance against six core pillars: demographics, leadership and talent pipeline, recruitment and retention, business innovation and strategy, marketing, and diversity and inclusion in the community.” More information about the framework can be found here.

Commenting on the suite of recognitions, Akin Gump chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer Nimesh Patel stated, “The breadth of these recognitions is a reflection of the intense commitment shown by so many at our firm to ensure that we have a welcoming and supportive workplace for all. We are honored to receive these recognitions, which inspire us to recommit ourselves to being a truly inclusive firm.”
