Akin Gump Recognized in Two Categories at The Deal Awards

(New York) – Akin Gump is pleased to announce that two deals on which it advised were honored at The Deal Awards.
In the Activist Campaign of the Year category, recognizing the most influential and/or transformational activist campaign or company defense, Akin Gump was noted for serving as outside counsel to Papa John’s International Inc. as the company entered into a securities purchase agreement with Starboard Value LP. In the Restructuring Deal of the Year category, which recognizes the most “exemplary advisory team providing guidance to debtor, creditors and/or other parties during in- or out-of-court restructuring process,” Akin Gump advised the unsecured bondholders of Seadrill Ltd. in the company’s bankruptcy. The Deal notes that Seadrill filed for Chapter 11 in September 2017 with a debt load of $10.3 billion. Five months later, “a deal was reached that recapitalized the company with $1 billion, offloaded $2.3 billion in debt and extended the maturity dates of an additional $5 billion.”
The Deal Awards recognize leaders and innovators in the world of dealmaking, covering deals involving at least one U.S. party.
