(Houston) – On September 22, 2017, Total announced that its subsidiary, TOTAL E&P USA, INC., entered into an agreement to capture seven prospects operated by Chevron U.S.A. Inc. in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Akin Gump advised Total in the agreement, which covers 16 blocks.
The associated prospects are located in two promising plays and areas of the GoM: Wilcox in Central Gulf of Mexico next to the Anchor discovery, and Norphlet in Eastern Gulf of Mexico near the Appomattox discovery. Total’s participation in these wells will be between 25-40 percent. The first of these wells was spudded late July on the Ballymore prospect in the Mississippi Canyon Area of the Gulf of Mexico.
David Sweeney, a partner in the oil and gas practice at Akin Gump, led the team advising Total. He was joined by oil and gas counsel James Robertson, senior practice attorney Shane Sullivan, and associates Niki Roberts and Jacob Johnson; tax partner Thomas Weir; and antitrust associate George Wolfe.
