Akin Gump’s Labor Practice Honored as One of Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year

(Washington, D.C.) – In its sixth annual Practice Group of the Year awards, Law360, for the third time in the past six years, selected Akin Gump’s labor and employment practice as one of the best in the category Employment. The awards recognize firms that “came through for clients by sealing the biggest deals and securing wins in high-stakes transactions.”

Law360 highlights several big wins the group had during the past year, including:

  • convincing the 4th Circuit to uphold the dismissal of a case brought against the event marketing company Freeman by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and having attorneys’ fees awarded to that client (click here to read more);
  • a 7th Circuit case on behalf of the Pipe Line Contractors Association involving its exit from the Teamsters Central States multiemployer pension fund (click here for more); and
  • a case before the 2nd Circuit on behalf of EY in which the court allowed the company to enforce an employee arbitration agreement.

Labor partner Don Livingston was also recognized in December as a 2015 Law360 MVP award winner for, among other work, leading the defense of Freeman in the first case described above. (Learn more here.)
