Akin Gump Secures Texas Jury Verdict Win Against IBM
(Houston) – Akin Gump obtained a $29.8 million jury verdict on behalf of Lufkin Industries, L.L.C. in a three-week trial against defendant IBM in Angelina County, Texas.
Lufkin sued IBM in 2013 for a troubled SAP implementation. After six hours of deliberating, the jury found that IBM fraudulently induced Lufkin into the parties’ contract, breached the parties’ contract and continued its fraudulent conduct after execution of the contract. The case is Lufkin Industries v. International Business Machines Corporation.
The Akin Gump team was led by Houston litigation partner Jim Wetwiska, along with senior counsel Holli Pryor-Baze and associate Lauren McLaughlin. Others from the firm who contributed to the case were partner Murry Cohen and associate Kate Semmler, both of the litigation practice, and intellectual property counsel John Grantham.
