Akin Gump Wins "Deal of the Year" Award
(Washington, D.C.) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has won the 2008 M&A Advisor “Media, Entertainment or Telecom Deal of the Year” award. The M&A Advisor, a leading industry publication geared to buyers and sellers of middle-market companies, held its annual Financing Awards Gala on June 9 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago.
The “Deal of the Year” award recognized Akin Gump’s advisory role in the IPO of leading motion picture exhibitor Cinemark Holdings, Inc. The transaction, which raised $532 million, was completed in 2007.
A total of 21 awards were presented to dealmakers and firms in the middle-market finance industry. The winners were selected by a panel of independent experts drawn from the ranks of private-equity firms, law firms, consultants, turnaround managers and business school deans, who judged the finalists based on the impact of accomplished transactions on the middle market.
The M&A Advisor has recognized Akin Gump seven times for its work in the middle market, including in both 2006 and 2007, when it recognized the firm as "Law Firm of the Year.”
