Akin Gump Wins TXF ‘Perfect 10’ Award for Deal of the Year in Export Finance

(London) – At the TXF Perfect 10 Awards ceremony held on June 12 in Berlin, Akin Gump was honored with Best European/Eurasian ECA-backed Deal of the Year for its work as legal advisor to the borrower, Lukoil Overseas Uzbekistan Limited.
The transaction saw longtime Akin Gump client Russian oil and gas company LUKOIL close, via its Lukoil Overseas Uzbekistan subsidiary, a $660 million K-sure-backed loan to finance, in part, development of the Kandym gas processing plant in Uzbekistan.
The awards recognize what TXF describes as “landmark financings within the export finance community in 2018.” As TXF notes in its deal profile, this is the “first transaction in which South Korean export credit agency K-sure provided direct support to a Russian sponsor, the pathfinder deal enabled LUKOIL to tap into the Asian financial market as well as opening up future opportunities for Korean exporters.”
