Appleseed Honors Akin Gump with Orchard of Justice Award
(New York) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a recipient of this year’s Orchard of Justice Award from Appleseed, a nonprofit network of 17 public justice centers in the United States and Mexico.
Akin Gump is being recognized for its work promoting opportunity and justice for the underprivileged. It is one of seven firms to have given a combined $1 million worth of pro bono hours and contributions to Appleseed in the past five years, which includes working with Appleseed in 2012 on Reimagining the Immigration Court Assembly Line, a report detailing modest improvements in the U.S. immigration court system since the publication of 2009’s Assembly Line Injustice.
“Appleseed continues to be one of Akin Gump’s strongest pro bono partners,” said Steven H. Schulman, an Akin Gump partner and head of the firm’s pro bono practice. “Through Appleseed, we have been able to work on a number of worthy concerns, such as pursuing asylum applications, leveling the playing field in the area of education and obtaining health care for those who lack it. This award recognizes both the importance we place on pro bono work and our strong relationship with Appleseed, and we are honored to receive it.”
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 850 attorneys in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
