Arshi Siddiqui Quoted in The Hill on Biden’s Ability to Break Legislative Gridlock

Akin Gump public law and policy partner Arshi Siddiqui has been quoted by The Hill in the article “Business groups breathe sigh of relief over prospect of divided government.”
The article reports that two more years of divided government, with a Democrat in the White House and in control of the House of Representatives and Republicans, pending the outcome of two runoff elections in Georgia, holding on to the Senate, is a best-case scenario for businesses.
President-elect Joe Biden’s long career in Washington, including more than 35 years in the Senate, combined with his previous work with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to the article, has K Street optimistic that gridlock won’t necessarily mean a legislative standstill.
“His Senate roots, his long-standing working relationship with Leader McConnell and most importantly his laser-focus on hitting the ground running creates a real opportunity to break legislative gridlock,” said Siddiqui, who formerly served as senior advisor and counsel to Speaker Pelosi.
“When you add in Pelosi and McConnell, all the major players have worked together before, they’re institutionalists, and at the end of the day they want to see where they can find common ground,” she added.
