Bankruptcy Partner Joins Akin Gump in Dallas

(Dallas, Texas) -- Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P. is pleased to announce that Charles R. Gibbs has joined the firm’s bankruptcy practice as a partner in Dallas.

Mr. Gibbs has significant experience in all aspects of bankruptcy, financial and corporate reorganization and creditors’ rights. He will continue to focus on the representation of secured and unsecured creditors, financial institutions and acquirers of troubled assets. In the past decade he has served as lead bankruptcy counsel for several regional lenders and as Texas counsel for numerous national banks and asset based lenders in matters involving real estate, oil and gas, transportation, mining, manufacturing and commercial transactions, and has acted as counsel for several significant investment funds in their efforts to acquire troubled assets.

Mr. Gibbs stated that he came to Akin Gump for “an opportunity to be an integral part of a truly national bankruptcy practice and to be involved in the largest bankruptcy cases in the country.”

Mr. Gibbs has more than 20 years of experience as a bankruptcy lawyer, and most recently was a shareholder at the law firm of Jenkens & Gilchrist. While at Jenkens, he was the firm’s bankruptcy practice group leader and served as chairman of the firm’s employment committee. He received his B.A. from Duke University in 1974 and both his M.B.A. and J.D. in 1978 from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Gibbs is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Mr. Gibbs’ move to Akin Gump represents another significant step in the firm’s strategy to further expand its national bankruptcy practice. In May of this year, Akin Gump’s New York office brought in three highly regarded bankruptcy lawyers, Daniel H. Golden, Fred S. Hodara and Lisa G. Beckerman. The firm’s bankruptcy practitioners act as debtor’s counsel, special counsel to the debtor, trustee or trustee’s counsel, creditor’s counsel and creditor’s committee counsel in a variety of significant matters. Current and recent representations include Boston Markets, Inc., Criimi Mae Inc. and Toshoku America, Inc.

H. Rey Stroube III, head of Akin Gump’s bankruptcy practice, said, “I have worked against and with Chuck for years and am delighted to have him join the Akin Gump team as we continue to enhance and expand our national bankruptcy practice.”
