Bloomberg BNA Covers Akin Gump Webinar on EPA Rules and Lautenberg Act, Quotes Charles Franklin
Bloomberg BNA’s Daily Environment Report, in its article “EPA Chemicals Rules Coming, but Later Than Expected,” reported on a webinar organized by Akin Gump that discussed, inter alia, two Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) proposed rules that the Environmental Protection Agency looks to submit for implementation of the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. The Lautenberg Act amended the TSCA in 2016.
EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention Jim Jones is noted as speaking at the event.
Akin Gump environment and natural resources senior counsel Charles Franklin, who himself worked as a federal regulator at the EPA, said that the agency’s regulations implementing the Lautenberg Act will affect chemical manufacturers, chemical importers, product manufacturers and importers, and retailers, adding that the last group may find that customers are reluctant to buy products that the EPA has designated as high priorities for risk evaluation.
