Stephen Kho, an international trade partner at Akin Gump, was interviewed by China Global Television Network for a story on President Trump’s decision to impose new tariffs on imported solar panels and washers.

The report noted that the Trump administration has launched a series of investigations in the past year into alleged unfair trading practices in solar, steel, aluminum and intellectual property. With President Trump’s latest move, CGTV reports that he has positioned himself as the “protector-in-chief.

Kho, a former official in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, said he expects Mr. Trump to announce additional trade penalties directed at Beijing prior to his State of the Union Address on January 30. “It’s the best place for Trump to be able to announce everything,” Kho said, “and look like he’s being strong on trade and against China.”
