Akin Gump public law and policy partner Clete Willems has been quoted by The Washington Post in the article “New tariffs on shoes, televisions, diapers and other Chinese-made products take effect Sunday,” which reports on the list of goods that are affected by new tariffs going into effect on September 1.

The article notes that a 15 percent tax will be imposed on products such as clothing, footwear, pens, pencils, diapers, Bluetooth ear buds, televisions, golf clubs and fishing line. No new date has been announced for talks between the United States and China. In fact, the Post says, the two sides are now far apart.

“We’ve largely been in a holding pattern since May on the structural issues that are critical to resolving this matter,” said Willems, a former top White House trade official.
