Congressional Quarterly Quotes Brendan Dunn on Fall Agenda for Congress

Brendan Dunn, partner in the public law and policy practice at Akin Gump, has been quoted in the Congressional Quarterly article “Fall Legislative Preview: Curtain Rises for Dramatic Finish,” which looks at what could be a busy few months for Congress. Lawmakers, the article says, not only need to figure out a way to pass spending bills to keep the government open leading up to the November midterm elections, but also must grapple with expiring farm and aviation programs as well as debates over election security, immigration policy and a proposed border wall.
The article reports that the elections will dominate much of what Congress does in the next two months. Other issues likely to affect the tone on Capitol Hill are leadership races, fundraising and the various investigations taking place, either by Special Counsel Robert Mueller or by members of Congress.
“What you really have are a lot of items that start piling up into the lame duck,” said Dunn, who previously worked as a policy advisor and counsel to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
One of those items, according to the article, could be extending tax breaks. “House Republicans are going to focus more on quintessential bread-and-butter conservative base issues, and I think tax 2.0 is a good example,” Dunn added.
