Crain’s New York Business Names Three at Akin Gump to Notable Women in Law List

(New York) – Crain’s New York Business has named Akin Gump chairperson Kim Koopersmith plus litigation partner Estela Díaz and corporate partner Alice Hsu to its 2020 Notable Women in Law list. The list celebrates “an exceptional pool of talented female attorneys in the New York City metro area,” with honorees selected from submitted nomination materials as well as from the publication’s own editorial research.

As Akin Gump chairperson, Crain’s says Ms. Koopersmith guides the strategic direction of the firm and plays a key role in strengthening its dedication to client service, diversity, pro bono work and attorney excellence. She is also praised for creating and expanding advancement opportunities for women and minorities, both inside and outside the firm. Ms. Koopersmith sits on the board of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and is vice chair of Her Justice, an organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence.

Crain’s notes that Ms. Díaz represents companies and individuals in criminal and regulatory investigations involving state and federal government authorities, focusing primarily on commercial litigation and labor and employment matters. She has litigated employment discrimination lawsuits and putative class actions involving wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state law, and was previously was a trial attorney at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Ms. Díaz is chair of Akin Gump’s Latinx Firmwide Resource Group and its Inclusion Council, and is on the board of The Bronx Defenders.

In its profile of Ms. Hsu, Crain’s writes that she focuses on capital markets, equity and debt offerings, securities regulation and corporate governance matters with particular experience in the energy and financial services industries. Clients include boards of directors, issuers, underwriters and investors in a broad range of transactions such as public offerings, private placements of equity and debt securities, or mergers and acquisitions. Ms. Hsu serves on Akin Gump’s New York office hiring committee, is a member of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Next Generation Advisory Board and is a member of the board of directors at Loyola Law School.
