Dallas Morning News Quotes Kenneth Menges on Drop in Texas M&A Deal Count, Jump in Value

For its article “Texas M&A count plunges, value skyrockets,” The Dallas Morning News quoted Akin Gump Dallas partner in charge J. Kenneth Menges Jr. on what the publication characterizes as the concurrent drop in the number of deals being done in Texas and jump in their value.

Regarding the drop, Menges said, “There’s no doubt that there’s been a slashing of mergers and acquisitions this year. The deals that are getting done are either mega-huge deals or smaller, midmarket transactions.”

Regarding the jump in M&A transaction value, reported by the publication as $290 million in Q2 2015 to $750 million in Q3, he said, “Historically, it is more likely that mega-deals are pursued when times are turbulent. With the global debt market as it is, there is an extraordinary amount of money available to fund mega-deals.”
