Dario Frommer Discusses California’s New Renewable Energy Standards in Energy Law Report Article

Energy Law Report has published the article “California Legislature Boosts Renewables Portfolio Standard of 50 Percent and Increases Energy Efficiency Goals; Balks at Increased Reductions in Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Petroleum Use,” written by Akin Gump public law and policy partner Dario Frommer.

The article examines California’s recent passage of legislation that would boost targets for renewable energy generation, thereby increasing energy efficiency. As Frommer writes, the move followed “a raucous debate fueled by intense lobbying by environmental organizations and the oil industry.” At the same time, however, legislators rejected an attempt to reduce further both petroleum usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
