The Street has quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Dario Frommer in the article “Republican California Cannabis Champion’s Job at Risk in Primary Today.” The article previews the primary races on tap in the Golden State, including one involving Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a supporter of the marijuana industry.
The races have been labeled the “jungle primary” because of their open field that, in some cases, has as many as 15 people competing against each other with only the top two finishers advancing to the general election in November. In addition to congressional contests, Californians are also voting in primaries for governor, treasurer and the state legislature.
Frommer, a former majority leader in the California Assembly, said it is impossible to predict who will come out on top. Turnout is expected to be low for all groups except Latinos, he said, which could affect outcomes in unpredictable ways.
