Dario Frommer, partner in Akin Gump’s public law and policy practice, was quoted by KPCC-FM in a story about the California Legislature’s efforts to fund the state’s transportation infrastructure needs.
“California seeks solutions as fuel-efficiency, declining gas tax make it harder to fix roads” notes that legislators in Sacramento are holding a special session with an agenda that’s heavy on transportation issues. Members are considering various ways to close a $59 billion funding gap for repairing the state’s roads and bridges.
“There’s a lot of thorny issues to iron out in a lot of these proposals,” Frommer said. “The big question here is ‘can we get business, labor and Democrats and Republicans aligned on an approach?’”
Frommer is a member of California’s Transportation Commission, which needs the funds for transportation projects. Central to the problem, the article notes, are diminishing returns from the state’s gas tax as cars become more efficient.
