Akin Gump tax partner David Burton is quoted in North American Windpower discussing a new energy tax plan by Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus. The proposal by the Montana Democrat would, according to the article, ensure that all energy tax incentives are technology-neutral and that they provide an equal credit to all U.S.-made resources or technologies based on carbon emission levels.

Burton describes the technology-neutral component as “innovative” and says the plan is “the most thoughtful that Congress has been with energy.” While Burton thinks the proposals “are a good way to approach energy,” he doesn’t see tax reform happening anytime soon, particularly in light of Baucus’s rumored departure from the Senate to become U.S. ambassador to China.
