Chip Cannon, head of Akin Gump’s energy regulation, markets and enforcement practice, has been quoted in the E&E News article “Biden win ushers in seismic energy policy shift.” The article looks at how much President-elect Joe Biden will be able to accomplish with regard to various energy-related topics, such as the regulation of fossil fuels, green energy and climate change.

Biden’s goal of decarbonizing the power sector by 2035, the article says, could hinge partly on the make-up of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Without Democratic control of the Senate, however, FERC efforts would likely be incremental, E&E News reports.

“Any major changes will require legislation,” said Cannon. “There’s not a lot [FERC] can go off and do on its own.”
