Ed Zaelke Discusses Wind Energy Technology with tED Magazine

tED Magazine has featured Ed Zaelke, chair of Akin Gump’s global project finance practice, in a Q&A column titled “Wind Energy Technology: The Next Frontier?” Zaelke, a former president of the American Wind Energy Association, offers his insight into the wind technology market.

Zaelke first discusses the type of projects that are likely to be most popular in the near future, predicting that the greatest opportunity for electrical distributors “is probably in the design and implementation of improved technology concerning climatic and environmental controls.” The other area, he said, might be in the integration of storage technology with wind farms.

Zaelke also offered some advice for electrical distributors looking for more business in the market, suggesting they invest some time “to learn and understand the industry to be a part of solving the challenges that it faces.” He noted that the wind industry, which has been on a steady upward growth for about 18 years, is “a high-tech solution to power from greenhouse-gas-producing fossil fuel plants.” It has lots of challenges, he continued, but “as the country continues to electrify over the coming decades, the opportunities in wind will continue to grow.”
