Edward Zaelke and Adam Umanoff Named Among California's Top Lawyers
(Los Angeles) Edward Zaelke and Adam Umanoff, who co-head Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP’s global project finance and renewable energy practice, have been named by the Daily Journal as among California’s Top 100 lawyers. This marks Mr. Zaelke’s third consecutive year on the list, and is the second consecutive appearance for Mr. Umanoff.
The list is compiled based on submissions from members of California’s legal community, and includes attorneys at the top of California’s legal profession who are playing leading roles in some of the largest deals and cases around the globe.
“We are exceedingly proud of Ed and Adam being named among the top lawyers in California,” stated Akin Gump Chairman R. Bruce McLean. “California is a very competitive legal market, and to have both Ed and Adam appear on this list speaks to the high caliber of their work and the leading-edge nature of the projects they handle.”
In choosing Mr. Zaelke, the Daily Journal lauded his ability to secure complex funding options for large-scale renewable energy projects that mitigate the financial risks that come with such massive deals. It specifically noted his representation of Australian private equity firm Macquarie Capital in a complex deal to fund an $800 million project in Mexico that also included wind turbines from a Danish company.
Stated Mr. Zaelke, “It is a tremendous honor, both for myself and my clients, to be named as among California’s top lawyers for three consecutive years.”
In its selection of Mr. Umanoff, the Daily Journal mentioned his 25 years of experience in the renewables industry, noting that his contributions have helped the industry expand into the fastest growing sector of the energy market. It expressly noted Mr. Umanoff's work on a deal to help Terra-Gen Power develop the largest wind farm in the United States, as well as his work on a cutting-edge deal for BrightSource Energy on a new solar thermal project in the Mojave Desert.
“I consider this recognition to be a great mark of distinction both for my practice and for the type of work my clients are involved with,” stated Mr. Umanoff.
Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, a leading international law firm, numbers more than 800 lawyers and advisors in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
