Elizabeth Young Receives Pro Bono Award

(New York, New York) – Elizabeth Young, an associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in New York, has been named as the recipient of inMotion’s 2009 John K. Geiger Award. The award was presented on February 3 at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Established in memory of longtime inMotion volunteer John Geiger, the award recognizes Ms. Young’s “extraordinary commitment to pro bono work” and her “energy and encouragement” in recruiting other lawyers at Akin Gump to represent inMotion’s clients.
Steven H. Schulman, leader of Akin Gump’s pro bono practice, stated, “Elizabeth deserves this recognition for building a tremendous team of attorneys in New York to assist inMotion’s clients. She is valued and trusted by all her clients, from major corporations defending lawsuits to women seeking justice.”
inMotion, a New York City-based nonprofit organization, provides free legal and social services to low-income, under-served and abused women. The organization recruits, trains and mentors volunteer lawyers from New York City’s premier corporate law firms and private practices. To date, more than 4,000 volunteer attorneys have been trained and taken cases referred by inMotion, producing successful legal outcomes for thousands of women and their children. Last year, inMotion’s legal volunteers donated more than 67,000 hours of their time.
