Energy Central has published the article “FERC Issues White Paper On Cybersecurity Incentives,” written by Akin Gump energy regulation, markets and enforcement head Chip Cannon and counsel John White. The article, which originated as a blog post on AG Speaking Energy, discusses a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) white paper regarding “a new framework for providing incentive rate treatment to utilities making investments in cybersecurity.”

The white paper, the authors write, “proposes two approaches for identifying investments eligible for incentives.” Some of those investments, Cannon and White note, “may eventually become mandatory, in which case the incentive treatment would end at the earlier of the sunset date and the date when such investment(s) become mandatory.”
