For its article “Corporate America fumes over Biden’s tax and climate package,” Financial Times quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner Arshi Siddiqui. The article discusses tax increases on big business included in a $700 billion economic package that passed the Senate on Sunday, and why U.S. business organizations oppose having to pay what President Biden called “their fair share.”

Siddiqui, who served as senior advisor and counsel to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), said that the legislation had struck a balance between the party’s priorities and the business community’s concerns, and it should not result in a rift, adding, “At this moment in time, more so than ever, business and the administration have to have a strong dialogue and they have to work together because their economic goals are the same—it’s just a question of how to get there.”
