Gabriel Procaccini and Stephen Davis, partners in Akin Gump’s energy practice, are quoted in the Private Equity International article “Going global,” which looks at international investment opportunities for U.S. energy specialists.

Procaccini predicts an uptick in private equity investment in international oil and gas resources. He says that as long as “service companies increase their capabilities to more parts of the world, and oil and gas prices stay high enough, there is incentive and ability to invest in upstream development worldwide.”

Davis notes that, while private equity has been heavily involved with shale in North America, the pace of activity has not been the same on an international level. Still, he adds, there are “excellent opportunities in upstream investment” for private equity, with some PE firms now “exploring joint ventures or farm-ins [or] other sources of capital, while retaining a potential source of future returns.”
