Gregory Knopp Quoted in Daily Journal on PAGA Suits

Daily Journal quoted Akin Gump labor and employment partner Gregory Knopp in its article “State law may serve as substitute for employee class actions,” on the fourfold increase in Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) suits between 2005 and 2013.  According to the article, workers are seeking to use these suits to circumvent contracts that require them on arbitrate grievances with their employers on an individual basis.

Knopp noted, "We will see a lot more of them brought against companies that have insulated themselves against class claims by implementing arbitration programs. The plaintiff would have an incentive only to bring a PAGA action and I think we would see more of those."
