In a segment on the possibility that the Trump administration is planning to pull back from the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) dispute settlement system in favor of U.S. laws predating international agreements under the WTO, CGTN America television featured Akin Gump regulatory group steering committee chair Hal Shapiro.

Shapiro said, “The question is: If [Trump] proceeds in the manner he’s proposed, will there be a reaction by other countries? Will they retaliate? Will they stop adhering to the rules? I think it’s a spiraling effect that has some concerned, and we just don’t know how that will play out.”
