(Dallas) – David Staber, senior counsel in the financial restructuring practice at Akin Gump in Dallas, has been awarded the Angel of Freedom Award from Human Rights Initiative (HRI) of North Texas.

The award, which is usually given to an organization, was presented to Mr. Staber individually in recognition of his work on an asylum case that lasted for seven years. The matter included two appellate victories in one of the most challenging immigration courts in the country.

Each November, HRI recognizes those whose gifts during the year—financial or otherwise—contributed significantly to the agency’s ability to carry out its mission.

Founded in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
