Roll Call has quoted G. Hunter Bates, co-head of the public law and policy practice at Akin Gump, in the article “Trade, infrastructure, health care issues dominate K Street.” Bates spoke about what is likely to drive business for Washington’s public policy firms during the rest of 2019.

Bates said trade and health care are poised to remain hot areas, “continuing to drive business.” Trade, he added, “has been the above-the-fold headline issue throughout the Trump administration, and that will not change.”

Heading into 2020, Bates expects privacy will be a top issue on Capitol Hill. He noted that a California law setting out new data privacy rules and standards is set to take effect in January, putting pressure on Congress to come up with a nationwide privacy structure.

“Deadlines drive deals in Congress,” Bates said.
