Ian Shavitz Quoted on Proactively Preparing Project Business Plans by Morning Consult
Morning Consult, for its article “Could Arctic Drilling Be the Next Keystone?,” quoted Akin Gump public law and policy senior counsel Ian Shavitz with regard to the Keystone XL oil pipeline debate. According to the article, the debate surrounding the conditional approval of Royal Dutch Shell’s plan for exploratory oil and gas drilling off the Alaskan northern coast—as well as environmentalists’ opposition—is flaring up.
Shavitz underlined the importance of proactive preparation to preempt opposition and noted that the pipeline debate demonstrated to companies the impact that a concerted opposition effort can have on business plans. He added, “You need to take proactive steps to make sure that your projects do not become the next Keystone pipeline.”
