Jennifer Richter Discusses Urban Air Mobility

InterDrone has produced the podcast “A Serious Look At Urban Air Mobility With Jennifer Richter of Akin Gump.” Richter is a partner in Akin Gump’s communications practice.
Richter begins by pointing out that, in the major cities, there isn’t enough transportation “that really gets people there that want to live there, work there, play there. Building new roads, adding lanes is a really difficult and expensive proposition.” Because of this, she said it is important to find easier, safer, more efficient ways to move people.
Urban air mobility, however, is not just for big cities, Richter notes. She said companies are now looking to conduct tests in rural areas. She added that new technology, such as energy storage, which will enable battery-powered flights, and low noise systems, which will be much quieter than helicopters, is helping to lead the way.
As for the various players in the industry, Richter pointed first to the government sector and agencies such as NASA, the FAA and the Department of Transportation. From the private sector, she mentioned Uber and Airbus as key players who are “working hard on their respective plans.”
