John Goodgame Profiled as Law360 Energy MVP
Akin Gump energy partner John Goodgame was profiled by Law360 as one of its 2013 Energy MVPs.
Goodgame’s record of work on “high-value transactions” is described, beginning with his work on Crestwood Midstream Partners’ $7 billion merger with Inergy Midstream, a deal that, in Law360’s words, “created a major shale market player” and one that both Law360 and Goodgame characterize as “complex.” Goodgame noted, “That was a merger of unrelated MLPs, and there have been very few of those, so that made it more complicated.”
He is also noted as representing:
- Regency Energy Partners LP's conflicts committee in its $1.5 billion acquisition of Southern Union Gathering Co.
- Enterprise Products Partners LP in a $480 million joint venture with Western Gas Partners LP
- Anadarko Petroleum Corp. in the $310 million sale of a general partner interest and stock to Natural Resources Partners LP.
Goodgame stressed the teamwork behind his work and successes, noting that clients are looking for expertise in a wide variety of topics: “You have to have a team of real good lawyers, who are all rowing the boat in the same direction.”
The article quotes Akin Gump Houston partner in charge Christine LaFollette’s praise for “consummate team player” Goodgame’s skills: “He has his uncanny ability to size up the situation, and zero in on the critical elements and the path forward, which is why people love to work with him.”
