For its article “After Supreme Court ruling, a sigh of relief among lobbyists – for now,” The Washington Post quoted Akin Gump public law and policy partner John Jonas on Republican reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling upholding federal insurance subsidies in the Affordable Care Act.

The article notes that GOP lawmakers have proposed plans to replace key sections of the law, which could be an indicator of the party’s game plan should the White House change hands in 2016.

Jonas said, “We should be paying close attention to these outlines of plans because these are the blueprint folks are going to carry into 2016. Statistically, the odds are at least 50/50 that Republicans can hold the House and Senate and pick up the White House, so if they do that, these kinds of plans are probably going to be the basis for legislative action in the next Congress. I think Democrats would either be shortsighted or foolish to take too much comfort from today’s decision.”
