Akin Gump international trade partner Lars-Erik Hjelm is quoted in a World Trade WT100 article on security compliance for the air cargo industry.

In a discussion of some of the biggest mistakes made by carriers, Hjelm notes that documentation errors are a common oversight. He says some carriers “get tripped up on the paperwork and are issued penalties” because of it.

As for ensuring air cargo compliance in the future, Hjelm says the best way to do so is to “become a known shipper.” This would include identifying the companies in one’s supply chain, including carriers and cargo screening facilities as well as their physical locations—a lengthy process, but one that provides a substantial benefit in terms of speeding transits.
